Dear Friends,
Boyd and I would like to cordially invite you to once again participate in
promoting Suri llamas!!
Last year, we hosted the first ever Suri Llama Futurity in Canada. It was such fun and we had so many good reviews,
we're doing it again! Once again we hope we've made the event attractive enough
for you to leave your comfortable farms and join us this August in the sunny
Shuswap!!
The Futurity will be open to Suri and Silky llamas. With the increasing
popularity of suri llamas, we invite you to participate in the event and see
what the future holds for llamas. The
Futurity will take place on Saturday, August 11.
As we did last year, we'll hold the
event in the "outdoor barn". There's lots of room so plan to bring
lots of llamas. There were a number of private sales made last year, so this
year we hope we can offer the same venue for you to market your llamas.
We'll start the weekend with a keuring on August 10 in the barn.

website at www.surillama.com to find out more.
You'll need to be a member of the Suri Llama Association to have your
llamas keured, so join now! The forms
and pricing can be found on the website or contact us for more information. If you don't have suri llamas, plan to attend to learn more. We'll also have a Suri Llama Association
meeting to provide more information at the end of the day.
In order to encourage lots of Suri llamas, we’ve chosen not to have herdsire
nominations again this year, but we’d like to encourage you to bring your
herdsire for display. We’re planning
a herdsire parade as part of the Futurity, so this will be your opportunity
to show off your “Main Men” and to sell breedings. We'll have the media present to experience
and write about Suri llamas. Last
year's coverage was awesome in this area.
Our advertising campaign will be expanded this year and we hope you'll help
us in spreading the news about the Canadian Gold! We want to promote our rare
Suris, so help us by coming out and participating as much as you can. The Fair Board is partnering with us to help
advertise the event within the local community. It will be up to us to promote our Suri llamas as the rare and beautiful
breed they are.
What's new? Last year, we attended
several shows in the US, so we're adding some new classes. Watch for the Mom and Cria class again this
year as well as some new and fun classes.
This is an opportunity to bring out those shining examples of your
breeding program. Plan to bring some
of your best!
We’ll need your sponsorship, whether you bring llamas or not! Although
this year, we're starting with a contingency fund - thanks to the proceeds
of the Silent Auction in 2006 - we'll still be trying to make this
work on a shoestring budget. We'd appreciate your help once again with donations
to the Auction. Part of our plan this
year, is to increase the prize money for classes. We’ve contacted local businesses for donations,
but your donations to the auction are also welcomed. Plan to stay overnight
for some fun and fellowship at the banquet.
On Saturday, August 11th, we'll be continuing the fun with a Llama Marketing
Seminar. There will be registration
for that, so watch our website. Dan
and Marilyn Milton have kindly donated their time not only to help out with
the Futurity, but they will be the presenters at the Seminar. Their years of expertise and wisdom will combine
to bring us some useful information.
As you know, Salmon Arm is a busy tourist town in summer, so make your hotel
reservations early. We'll provide a list of hotels, or if you wish, see their website for a list
of B&B’s. This is God’s country
in summer – dress is casual, the sun is always shining and there are lots
of activities and fun things to do all summer.
Plan to take some extra time to enjoy our environment.
Again this year, we won't be mailing entry forms, so please help us by passing
this information on to others, or provide us with their email addresses and
we'll insure they get the information.
So....in summary, mark your calendars now and make sure the Canadian Gold,
the Keuring, and the Llama Marketing Seminar are part of your show season!!
